Shhh...We're in the Library!

Hello everyone...I am sorry I have been gone for a while now. Things have been CRAZY! When we moved up here, I got a job as a school librarian and it has kept me very busy. Not only am I a first year librarian, but it is a brand new school, so there has been a lot of work to do! We just finished the first week, and it was so much fun! It took a long time to get here, but I am finally doing what I set out to do. Here are a few pictures of the library. I still have a lot of work to do, so it is a work in progress!

Chocolate Fever

Last night, I went to a chocolate factory with some of the girls from my Sunday school class. For those of you whose minds automatically jumped there, no there was not a chocolate river and I only saw one oompa-loompa. Although, it was on my way home, and I'm pretty sure the little guy was just a figment of my sugared-up imagination.

We actually went to Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Grapevine, and we had a blast. We got to eat from the chocolate fountain, make chocolates, decorate chocolate, and we even had a chocolate house building contest. While my blood sugar is returning to normal, check out some more of our pictures!

Seriously?

Disclaimer: I would like to take a moment to say that I love Target. Someday in the distant future I hope to be buried beneath the white tile floors that I walk daily. It may just be the best store of all time. That being said, I need a moment to say...

Seriously???? I was almost severely injured today at Target, and I think that I will not be the only one. Did I bump my head while jumping up in down in excitement? No! Did I get my foot caught in the automatic door? No! I was almost injured in the parking lot...and it would have been all my fault. Why? Because in it's effort to be all clever and cute, two things I usually support, Target developed a new stop sign. I did not stop to take a picture of this stop sign, so I tried to re-create it for you. Not fabulous, but it will do.

Now, in this picture, it is very clear that this is an octagon...the universal shape for a stop sign. But from 20 feet away, those crazy white lines make the octagon go away, and it just looks like a circle. I really thought it was just a "welcome to target" kinda thing. Only upon closer inspection (after I almost got run over) did I realize the error of my ways. What was Target thinking???? If I was their lawyer, I would have had some serious objections to that one.

The Olympics

So who knew I would be so addicted to the Olympics?? So far I am pretty sure I have seen every bit of them, even if I was fast-forwarding through it. I definitely think that there is one thing that has taken my Olympic watching to the next level- the DVR. I love it! I can sit down to 12 hours of recorded Olympics and fast-forward through commercials, cheesy commentary, etc. AND, just as a side note, watching the rowing and cycling events is WAY more fun when you can use the remote to make the competitors go ridiculous speeds. Watch, find out who won, move on. Fabulous.

Confessions of a Twenty-Something Drama Queen

What a day! I decided that with school starting just around the corner, it was time to get to work on my new library. So, I hopped in the car and headed up there. Soon, I was feeling kind of hungry, so I went up to the grocery store and got some food. I wanted something a little different, so I went with a croissant and chicken salad. Apparently, I just couldn't contain my hunger, because that croissant was gone before I even left the parking lot. Up to school I went, with my chicken salad in hand. Just one tiny problem. It is a brand new school with not a fork to be found- not anywhere. So...after searching the school to no avail I knew I was up a creek. What to do? Well, perhaps a more civilized girl would have put that stuff in the fridge and waited for later. But oh no, not me. So what did I do? I searched high and low for something to use and came up with what I thought was a decent alternative. That's right- Amanda ate her chicken salad with a ruler. Oh, yes, I just wrote that alright. A RULER! In my defense, it was still in the package, and I ran it under hot water. The meal was quite delicious, and frankly, it taught me a little about myself. I apparently have no shame.

Compared to that little nugget of information, the fact that I ran over a dead skunk on my way home seems a little tame. But let me tell you what...the smell was anything but tame and I am currently contemplating pouring V8 all over my car. Like I said, what a day.

Getting There

Well...After a weekend of moving in our house is finally starting to look like a home! I am sorry that I have run out of witty banter (because apparently I find myself witty), but I'll let the pictures do the talking today...

This is the kitchen on Friday...not so good

This is the kitchen as of Sunday...not perfect, but a lot better thanks to my mom...

On the top of the cabinets in the kitchen...what do you think? Let me know if you have any better ideas about what to put up there or if you think anything looks out of place!

The bedroom...what do you think? The black and white are a lot different than what I had before, so it will take awhile for everything to match!

The light well...

And a hallway...
