Favorite Books

Today's Show Us Your Life over at Kelly's Korner is all about your favorite books. The librarian in me just had to join in! Throughout my life, anytime I had to write down or talk about my favorite hobbies, reading was at the top of the list. I'm not sure where or why I decided I liked it so much, but I do have a mom who's a big reader. So there you go. Thanks, Mom.

Anyhow, growing up I had a ton of favorites. My grandparents bought me a computer when I was in the 4th grade, and the only thing I still remember doing on it was creating a data base of my Baby-Sitter's Club books. I also spent a lot of time in front of the bookshelves making sure they were in numerical order, along with all of the Anne of Green Gables series. Clearly, I had a lot going on as a child.

And the obsession never stopped. I've always been a big reader to the point that I have to limit myself. If I have a book in front of me I won't quit until it's done. I never finished Jane Eyre in high school English, because I was too busy going through my Patricia Cornwell phase and I was reading The Bone Collector. The sad thing is my teacher knew I was such a big reader that she would have never suspected that my five minute book report was the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. I kept thinking she would look straight into my brain and realize I pretty much winged the whole thing. I'm a terrible person. Sorry Mrs. Farr.

So for the sake of brevity (ha), here are some of my favorites.

My favorite book ever. Seriously, I have yet to meet a woman who has read this book and not absolutely loved it.

My favorite book growing up. Those March girls get me every time.

A classic I actually did read.

That sweet sweet tree. Oh the tears.

Although I could name children's books all day long, this was the most fun to read out loud with my younger elementary kids. So So cute.

So This Is Love

I'm in love, I'm in love, and I don't care who knows it!

I pooled my Christmas and birthday money and purchased this little beauty:

No it's not a giant cell phone/GPS/printer. It's a Kindle. A Kindle is a type of e-reader. You buy books straight from Amazon and they download straight to the device.

I have seen them around airports and different places like that, but I just figured it would never be as good as reading a book. Well, after looking at Mike's at Christmas I decided it was worth a shot.

And...I am in big trouble, because I am addicted. I'm on my third book this week. If you wonder if I have fallen off the face of this earth, I haven't. I'm just in my bed reading. Now excuse me, I need to go download a new book.

I don't like cats, but I liked this book

I have a confession to make. I know I am a librarian, and I should probably support great pieces of literature that make you ponder your existence at every turn of the page. But I don't. When I read, I want it to be light. And fluffy. And preferably happy. Now, I realize that that may make some of you gasp. And sometimes I get down with the heavy reads. But usually not.

It helps that I am an elementary school librarian and spend a lot of my time reading books reviewed for fourth and fifth graders. But let me tell you what- they can really suck you in.

Well, I work in the church library once a month, and yesterday as I was shelving I noticed a series that looked kind of interesting. I checked it out, and I am already done with the first book. So good! I really enjoyed it. I thought it had the right amount of humor, romance, and mischief to keep the plot humming along.

I really appreciate Christian fiction that can tell a good story without making you feel like the author took a sermon and inserted some dialogue here and there. There are really a bunch of great Christian authors out there today. Check them out!

PS: The book is Boo by Rene Gutteridge. I'm off to start the second book!
