Ode to Jess

This one's for you, Jess!

I am living in a virtual world and I am a virtual girl...

I have a problem. I am addicted to my virtual life. I mean, I have always enjoyed perusing the Internet, and "Google" became a verb to me long ago. I completed an entire Master's degree online, and completed entire group projects through the computer with people in different states. My real problem, though, began when I got my laptop. I can sit for hours on end watching TV and checking Facebook, my e-mail, and (my new found obsession) reading people's blogs. I even find myself worrying about how I am going to keep up with all my online responsibilities: posting on my blog, Facebook, and keeping my pictures current on Shutterfly. Yes...these are the things that I worry about. There are people in famine all over the world, but my inability to decide whether to post pictures just to my blog or to Facebook too is what keeps me up at night. Sheesh.

Now, though, I find myself in all new techie territory. Last week, I purchased a Wii Fit. It is so fun! Well, I mean, if you count being weighed and measured as fun. The thing is smarter than I am, although it's attitude is starting to get on my nerves. If that thing tells me that I seem a little shaky one more time I am going to give it a piece of my mind (and I think it might just understand me). Then there's the "oh" sound it makes when I step on. Like, "oh, I wasn't expecting you to weigh that much." I feel like it's mocking me, but I'm sure it's for my own good. Despite these features, though, it really is an amazing piece of technology. You can do yoga, boxing, hula hooping (if only you were a fly on the wall in my house), and you can even run through a virtual park. When my trainer took the day off and another trainer showed up in her place, I knew I was in a whole new league of video game.

Chadd's Wedding

This was a very busy weekend in the McDonough household. Mike's friend Chadd got married in Fort Worth, and Mike officiated! It was fun (and nerve wracking) to see him up there...especially since there was no microphone and some crazy acoustics. He did a fabulous job! Another great part of the weekend was that we got to see some of our friends that we don't see very often: Lauren and Tim, Tiffany and Preston, and Jennifer and Trent. I was especially excited to see Ms. Lauren, who shares my affinity for Ann Taylor LOFT and sarcasm. I "borrowed" some of Lauren's pictures...thanks Lauren!

Our New Casa

Well, it looks like our house may finally be ready soon! We have made it through four builders, lots of months, and one busted sewer pipe under the house. With any luck we'll be in Frisco by the end of July!

Camp Rock!

Okay people, I haven't been this excited since High School Musical 2 came out! I know that several of you think I am positively insane, but I will use the same excuse I did when I knew all the Barney songs in middle school: I have a much younger sister! Think I am weird if you must, but I love the Jonas Brothers. I am pretty sure I bought the shirt at their concert. Yes I was at the concert. And it was fabulous. The way I look at it, the Jonas Brothers are just good clean fun. Even if I am 26.

So get ready. Camp Rock comes on Friday night on the Disney Channel. Set your DVR or Tivo. And you can thank me later for one of the best Friday nights you have had in a LONG time!

Go Green or Go Home

Today was a monumental day in my grocery shopping life. For those of you who aren't around me on a daily basis, you need a little back story. With all of the new talk about "green this" and "organic that," I must admit that I have jumped on the green bandwagon. I have become obsessed with checking product labels for evil ingredients. I have started buying more organic foods. I have even switched to all natural deodorant (after a test run to make sure I wasn't going to pollute the air around me)!

With my new found "greenness" comes my new pet peeve. Plastic shopping bags! I feel that it is my mission to rid the world of them....or at least my world. So, I bought a couple of reusable bags and got going. The only problem I have run into is the fact that I don't have enough for full-on grocery shopping yet. Today, though, I decided I didn't care. I was going to go plastic bag free dang it! So there I was, armed with 3 small reusable bags facing a grocery list of about 30 items. I made it though! I don't know how the checker felt as I was trying to stuff 10 items into a small bag...or how the woman behind me felt as I started chucking meat and veggies into my basket without bags...but that's okay. It's a start!

Alright, people, here we go. It is finally time for the McDonough family to enter into the vast and time-consuming world of blogging. Stay tuned for tales from our crazy beautiful life!
