State Fair

It's pretty much a law that if you are in the Big D in October you have to go to the State Fair of Texas. It's right next to the law that says if you go you have to eat as much fried food as you possibly can. Look it up.

Things are a little different this year since my dad can't do as much as he used to, but we still managed to have a fabulous time. And the fried food abounded. This year's selection? Fried PB & J, fried pineapple upside down cake, fried cookie dough, fried ribs, corny dogs, nachos, fudge, and cinnamon rolls. We missed quite a few I would have liked to try (hello El Bananarito), and some I have to admit I'm glad we passed up (Deep Fried Bubble Gum...Really?). But overall, I consider it a success!

PS: According to the State Fair website, el bananarito is a deep fried banana rolled in a flour tortilla, topped with whipped cream, powdered sugar, a dusting of cinnamon, and a touch of vanilla extract topped with chocolate or caramel. Somebody want to make me one?

Proof that my sister was there. Or at least her legs were.

Hailey just reminded me that we did not get fried cheese curds this year. Super sad. Starting the countdown to 2012.

I agree that visiting the State Fair is a law. I am a law abiding citizen so I go every year. However, my go to artery clogging fair foods are a Fletcher's Corny Dog & a Belgium waffle with all the fixins. Delicious!
