St. Louis, Part the Last

The rest of our weekend in St. Louis was full of fun! Saturday we left our hotel room at 9:30 in the morning and didn't get back until 11:30 that night. It was a blast, but we were exhausted.

We started the day at Union Station, which was a major railroad hub "back in the day." Then we made our way to the Science Center, and it was a blast. A lot of sections are free, but you can pay extra for special exhibits. We spent a lot of time in the "Pirates" exhibit, and then we went to the planetarium. Yes, you heard me right. The planetarium. It was pretty much like being on an elementary school field trip, except we didn't have teachers telling us to be quiet when we laughed. Not that we would do such a thing. But if we did we would have been very quiet about it. Next it was on to the St. Louis Galleria, where there was shopping and eating to be had. And a movie of course. Because no weekend is complete without seeing Jacob and Edward fight over Bella.

No pictures in the pirates exhibit, but it was really neat. A lot cooler than I thought it would be. Just FYI: cooler is a relative term when you are talking to a librarian.

The planetarium is across the highway, so you take a bridge over. It's really neat, and it has cutouts where kids can watch the cars pass under their feet. And people like me who took a ridiculous amount of pictures trying to catch a car passing underneath.

Sunday we went to the COOLEST museum ever, the City Museum in downtown St. Louis. I couldn't do most of it, like the 10 story slide, but I did manage to get lost in the enchanted caves. And let me tell you, enchanted caves can get mighty warm. I can't wait to go back when our kids get closer to preschool and elementary age. There are secret tunnels they can crawl through underground, random slides everywhere, and iron work that creates a system of tunnels that leads virtually everywhere. They can literally climb the walls...even the ceiling...and it is all built to be fun and safe.

On the roof at the city museum. You could pay a little extra to go up there, and you could ride the ferris wheel, slide, and climb all over the place. Somehow riding the ferris wheel 10 stories above downtown frightened me.

This was one of the places you could climb. If you are brave enough, you can climb up the walls, across the roof, and into a spire on the top top of the building to look around. I think there's a slide up there too. Like I said...no climbing for me!

A quick stop at the arch. They had vendors, airshows, and concerts all weekend before the fireworks shows, but it was so super hot outside. So...we ate a corny dog, I sprayed my dress with mustard, and then we went back to our hotel.

One of the best parts of the trip was the fireworks show over the arch. Our hotel room looked out over the arch and river, so we could see the whole thing from our hotel room. And since we were on the 10th floor we could see all the other fireworks in the area too. Unfortunately, fireworks don't photograph so well from behind glass.

Monday we got up, went to the FREE and super nice zoo, and then headed back to Mississippi. It was a great weekend, and I can't wait to go back!
